Rated 5 out of 5 by Missing this version I upgraded to the MMIII recently and have noted the following issues: - less cushioning in the newer version - rock plate (aka trail shield) is not as robust - 2 mm less of a drop from heel to toe I miss the MMII for the above reasons. (I was unable to edit my review of the MMIII posted after my first week of use. Now with 140+ miles on the shoes I have a more fully informed opinion of them). The MMII has the perfect blend of cushioning and protection for the rugged (read technical rocky, root) trails of Northern Minnesota (glaciers left very little soil behind and the volcanic bedrock tends to be rough-edged as it has been only exposed to the elements for 10,000 yrs or so) while still allowing for adequate trail feel. Please bring back this version of the shoe!! Not all of us want to, or can, run in a minimalist shoe. August 18, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Absolutely love them Fits true to size. I normally wear and order a wide, however, due to the design of the shoe it wasn't needed. The arch support was great; I didn't use my inserts, nor did I need them. Very light weight. The shank was great, no issue with runs on rocky terrain. The heel support was fabulous. I can't recommend this shoe enough! I went back and ordered a second pair; a must have for trail runners! April 10, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love! I walk dogs in NYC and wear these 12-16 miles a day on street and park terrain, they really hold up and my feet aren't tired. April 1, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Simply the BEST! I bought my first pair of montrail while on vacation in Utah. I needed a new pair of shoes to hike in Utah's gorgeous national parks. My montrail's were fabulous! I could walk for 5 hours and my feet never hurt. I have a high arch and my montrail's supported me fabulously. As an avid tennis player, I bought a 2nd pair to try on the tennis courts. Love them!! Rated 5 out of 5 by Love these shoes! I had a pair of Montrails for about 10 years before they died - I don't remember what model they were and I wore them until they disintegrated - and I was a little worried that the newer models wouldn't be as great because they look quite different, but these were super comfortable right out of the box. Stable, grippy, good on sandy rocks, and good for my wide feet. February 8, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Favorite trail runners ever I bought a pair of these three years ago and I am just now putting them to rest, sadly. This is one great shoe. Even after heavy use on trails and sometimes even on concrete, these shoes continue to have great support. The only reason I am discarding them now is because the bottom part has a small crack in it. I would wear them several times a week on the trails down here in southern Indiana and they would not only keep my feet dry in huge puddles but they also provided me with excellent traction. I never once hurt myself while running with these but the first time I ran without them you best believe I sprained my ankle. The bottom part of the shoe is slightly stiff - which I love on a trail - but if you are seeking more flexibility you may want to look elsewhere. January 31, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by love this shoe Lightweight but really sturdy. Good support, and fits well enough to give high arches help they need. Recommend !!! January 18, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Love 'em This is my fourth pair of Masochists because I love the fit and comfort! I wear them for hiking/walks and they keep my feet dry in the winter when the trails get wet and muddy! December 16, 2014
Rated 1 out of 5 by Want the original back! I'm not happy with the Mountain Masochist II. I LOVED the original Masochist (and loved the blue color too) and referred folks to Montrail all the time. I've tried the Masochist II twice now and each time end up returning them as the comfort level just isn't there. For some reason they fit completely different than the original Masochist did. Very disappointed that they discontinued the original shoe. This is NOT a better version at all. November 10, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Best hiking shoe ever So far, so awesome! I had a pair overnighted to my house just in time for a 20-mile weekend hike on a section of the AT...put them on after working on my feet for 6 hours in my most comfortable work flats and immediately felt relief. They cushioned my feet in exactly the right places and felt better than being barefoot. They were great for the hike: lightweight, great fit (I purchased in size 8 but typically wear 7.5...would recommend buying 1/2 size up), no blisters or discomfort whatsoever. Been great on other day hikes as well. Planning to wear them for AT thru-hike in the spring. October 4, 2014
