Rated 3.9 out of 5 by 10 reviewers.
Rated 3 out of 5 by I really like the shoes. They are extremely comfortable. Although I've worn them for about 100 miles of trail and they are falling apart. The tread is falling off and the fabric is starting to tare. I am very hard on my foot wear. I've worn these shoes to the top of many peaks and mountains. Wear them through snow, mud and anything imaginable. Although this review seems bad, I'll probably buy another pair. Can't find another pair of shoes as comfortable as these. Just disappointed in the quality. June 22, 2015
Rated 1 out of 5 by dry weather only These are kinda-sorta trail running shoes. They are nice and light, and have reasonably good lateral stability. But if you run on actual trails, not just groomed gravel paths but hiking trails, with rocks and mud, these shoes are not well-suited. The soles are too flimsy to protect your feet from rocks. And if you ever run through some mud, forget about having them much longer. The killer problem for me: After going on less than 20 4 mile runs, I just ran twice through some mud. The uppers become so frayed from those two runs alone that the sides have burst out. The fabric is simply not durable: Put it through any combination of dirt and wet, and it wilts away. Once upon a time, Montrail made a shoe called the Hardrock. It was excellent. The perfect compromise between lightness, protection, and durability. Nothing Montrail makes these days comes even close. I'm still scratching my head wondering why they discontinued such a good shoe. April 30, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Perfect Choice I recently purchased the Fluidflex II for a secondary shoe and occasional runner. I work at a camp/retreat facility and a particular brand sandal is my primary shoe, however I bought these to try out. I have yet to wear my sandals to work since these have come in the mail. Being on mixed surfaces throughout the day, these shoes have yet to give me an issue. So far the shoe has held up really well and I was very surprised with the traction/grip the shoe has. Several times I have had to walk up steep banks and the shoes never slipped. I would recommend the Fluidflex II. Mine are surprisingly light weight, breathable and are very comfortable. Cheers. Rated 1 out of 5 by Disappointed I have been a long time Montrail fan and loyalist until recently when I have had several different pairs of Montrails delaminate within the first 100 miles - including the Fluidflex and Fly. Unfortunately the old Montrail quality is gone. April 6, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Excellent Ultra Race & Training Shoe! I decided to give this shoe a shot since it meets my needs of a light trail shoe (this shoe preforms on road well too) that has a low drop and does not break the bank. PROS: - light -low drop - durable on (I run on rocky rugged trail) - perfect amount of cushion yet still responsive - Cheap! Most shoes cost well over 100 but the fluid flex is priced great and does not suffer quality wise by its price - traction is awesome on rock, mud, hard pack and loose pack trail. Also this shoes does great on track and road too! - dries super fast Cons: - toe box could be wider (its not narrow but I would like more of a natural foot shape) -Hard to find in stores - You will fall in love with this shoe! I could not be more satisfied with my purchase this will be my go to shoe this season and most likely from now on! I will be racing 2 50k's, 1 50m, and some shorter trail races in these bad boys! Rated 5 out of 5 by Light, Comfy, Sensitive I am a professional high altitude mountain guide in the Himalaya of Nepal. I have been using the montrail fluid flex on my approaches. This is the most comfortable shoe for both running trails and being in a shoe for 20 to 30 days. Light, very very very comfortable. February 27, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by Versatile I am an avid trail runner/racer training to enter my ultra distance in 2015. I just took this shoe to Colombia as I wanted a shoe for all conditions and terrain. I put this shoe through the paces including road runs, hiking, trail running and endless hours of walking. The fluidflex was fantastic. Super light, breathable and simple. This shoe provides a very plush ride while giving me the minimalistic feel I was looking for. PROS: Comfy, plush ride, super light, breathable CONS: Very little toe protection January 9, 2015
Rated 5 out of 5 by amazing shoe It's been a while sine i owned a pair of shoes where i can be on my feet all day and have my feet knees and back not be any pain or discomfort, December 22, 2014
Rated 4 out of 5 by Nice shoe Pros: lightweight, supportive, comfortable and good looking. Cons: I wear and 11.5 and would buy an 11 if I bought them again. Despite being a bit long, the performance seems unaffected. December 13, 2014
Rated 5 out of 5 by Lightweight, Jack-of-all-trades I primarily use the FluidFlex II (and its predecessor) as my go-to trail shoe, especially since it has a nice, versatile, road-to-trail feel to it. However, I will take this shoe on road runs as well, including (but not limited to) hilly long runs, speed work on snow and uneven surfaces, and any run where I just feel more comfortable with some sticky traction. I don't usually wear built-up trainers, so this shoe is perfect for me. I've raced in it from 10k to 50 miles. My last 50k in these shoes yielded a 1st-place overall finish. The FluidFlex II hits my particular runner's profile spot-on. September 5, 2014
