Dakota Jones

Dakota Jones, Endurance Runner

Hometown: Durango, CO/ Moab, UT

Favorite Band: I have several: Streetlight Manifesto, Modest Mouse, Gogol Bordello, Motion City Soundtrack, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy, The Infamous Stringdusters and The Fratellis.

Other Sports or Activities: Climbing, biking, skiing.

Real (Primary) Job: Manual Labor

Best Trail Running Memory of 2009: Trying to kick steps up the snow to the top of Virginius Pass at Hardrock with Troy Howard. We were pulling on the rope and kept slipping out and nearly sliding back to the bottom.

Favorite Trail Ultra: Hardrock without a doubt. Hardrock epitomizes everything I love about ultra running: extremely challenging, through a stunning, remote landscape with lots of great people. Hardrock is the essence of adventure.

Beer or wine: Beer.

Trail Shoe of choice and why: The Mountain Masochists are fast and light, yet tough and durable. They are designed for hauling ass on rough terrain.

Objective #1 for 2010: To continue to enjoy running by staying motivated. Running is only worthwhile if I can enjoy every part of it, and that’s the case as long as I make sure to take time off to avoid burnout. As for races, San Juan Solstice 50.

Best race in 2009: The North Face 50. Being my second 50 mile race, I am still learning a lot about how to run such a distance. But I feel like I ran a strong race and learned a lot about how to be faster in the future.

Person Who has Influences You the Most: My parents have been infinitely supportive of me in everything I have ever done. I owe them everything.

When I’m Not Running I Prefer to... do some related activity like climbing, biking, skiing, or spending time with friends. I also like to read and watch movies, and sometimes to play music.

If A Genie Would Grant Me One Wish: I would probably wish for humans to be more respectful of wild places and the wildlife within them. Or international stardom, since the reason I trail run is to be famous…

When in Need of Rest and Relaxation I... Spend time with my friends, which usually ends up involving lots of physical effort and very little sleep, and makes me remember that I actually get more rest when I’m training.
