Luis Escobar, Endurance Runner

Hometown: Santa Maria, California

Favorite Sports Team: Righetti High School Cross Country

Other Sports or Activities: Rock Climbing, Mountain Bikes and Snowboarding.

Real (Primary) Job: Professional Photographer / High School Cross Country Coach / Personal Trainer

Best Trail Running Memory of 2009: Early morning, ice covered decent on the South Kibab Trail on the Grand Canyon South Rim. That’s the day that Montrails saved my life!

Favorite Trail Ultra: HURT 100 Honolulu Hawaii - gnarly, gnarly, gnarly.

Beer or wine: I live in the heart of the California Central Coastal Wine Region. We are surrounded by vineyards, wineries and world class wine makers. My favorite is anything local.

Trail Shoe of choice and why: Montrail Mountain Masochist. The Masochist is light and responsive but also stable. These shoes give me confidence on the trail. I can run aggressively in the Masochist. I trust the Masochist on any surface in any condition.

Objective #1 for 2010: Stay healthy and injury free. I hope to run the Badwater 135 in July and break 30 hours.

Best race in 2009: My best race in 2009 was the race that I direct. The Santa Barbara Red Rock 40 Mile Endurance Run. I did not compete well personally, but I know that I helped many others meet and exceed their running goals. This also marks my nineteenth consecutive year completing this event.

Person Who has Influences You the Most: In terms of running, Scott Jurek inspires my running. Scott has always been a gracious champion and a great ambassador for the sport of long distance trail running and racing. He has set a good example for all of us.

When I’m Not Running I Prefer to... spend time with my wife, work in my studio and help others realize their athletic goals and aspirations.

If A Genie Would Grant Me One Wish: More hair.

When in Need of Rest and Relaxation I... climb big rocks.
